Cordless Lawn Mowers Vs Corded Lawn
Mowers
Mowing your lawn being an absolute necessity,
the dilemma is not whether to purchase a mower or not but
what type of mower to purchase. With so many different
types of lawn mowers available in the market today
selecting the right lawn mower can become quite a
challenge. Here are some pros and cons of cordless lawn
mowers and corded lawn mowers to help you make your
decision.
Electric lawn mowers whether they are corded or
cordless have some common advantages like being
environmentally friendly with the absence of harmful gas
emissions, producing less noise pollution, easier startup
with push button features and easier to be stored and
maintained. Similarly, the disadvantage is their
limitation to be used only in smaller gardens, about one
third of an acre or less.
The extent of area mowed by cordless lawn mowers
is limited by the capacity of their batteries. Typically
a fully charged battery can run for about 60 minutes. Of
course, larger areas can be mowed using these mowers but
only after recharging the batteries. The corded mowers
are limited by the length of their
cord.
The runtime of cordless lawn mowers depends on
the capacity of their batteries, a more powerful battery
means less run time. On the other hand, corded lawn
mowers are limited by the power supply capacity of
households.
Meticulous care should be given while choosing
the power cord as some corded mowers do not include them.
It is best to follow the instructions given by the
manufacturer to select the right cord. Using power cords
that does not confirm to the specification can be
dangerous as they can get overheated and can also affect
the life of the motor.
With cordless lawn mowers you obviously don’t
have to worry about cords and the disadvantages
associated with them. However, cordless mowers are
difficult to push uphill and it is better to purchase a
self-propelled cordless mower in such
case.
While cordless lawn mowers are limited by the
capacity of their batteries, corded mowers present
unlimited runtime as long as you stay within the reach of
the cord length. However, if you have a spare battery and
keep it charged, you can increase the run time of a
cordless mower.
The batteries of cordless mowers have to be
replaced after a few years. Many of these mowers use
lead-acid batteries and though these can be recycled they
still have some adverse impact on the
environment.
